Wayang suket

Puppet is a puppet made of grass or suket –in the Javanese language. Puppet is a form of imitation of the various figures of the wayang kulit. Only in shaping the character takes a level of detail its own because it is only done in one color. This creation is the result of creativity Koson Wikrama Tunut or Mbah Obese (born 1905), which is derived from the Village Wlahar, KecamatanRembang. This puppet is made with basic ingredients grass kasuran, type of grass that only grows on the moon Sura or Suro in the system of the Javanese calendar.

 

Puppet is first introduced to the public through the Campground Wira Karya Nasional (PWN) of the year 1990 in the Village of Bantarbarang, Kecamatan Rembang, Purbalingga Regency. Before pursuing art crafts wayang suket, Mbah Obese also known as artists.

 

The structure of the puppet suket Mbah Obese can be divided into 3 parts, namely: (1) the top or head made simple with three different types of webbing; namely bamboo, kelabangan and tikaran. (2) the central Part; body, hand until the belly look almost the same as wayang kulit, with three woven patterns such as the head parts. (3) the bottom; that fashion is made as to resemble the shape of the puppet, with a variation of the ornament so it looks beautiful. On the bottom there are 4 types of wicker that is woven bamboo, kelabangan, tikaran and nest of bees.

 

Wayang Suket Mbah Obese is currently one of the intangible Cultural Heritage category of the Traditional Technology (woven).
